Inspiration in the garden

When I am in my garden, I am usually weeding, planting, or subdividing.

I often use this time to think about story ideas.

When illustrating the "Needles" story I would often bring a plant sprig back to my studio for greater detail. It is important to me that the herbs are identifiable to the reader. I love the idea that you can learn something from a story and bring it with you for your whole life.
